When automation is the right answer — and when it isn't

Automation is the cheaper and faster option in many situations, which is why we lead with it. But it is not always the right call, and we will say so.

  • Automation is the wrong answer when many people need to edit the same data at once — no amount of scripting fixes concurrent editing.

Do we have to stop using Excel?

No. Most automation work keeps Excel exactly where it is. Your team continues working in the files they know while the collection, validation, reporting and data movement around those files stop being manual.

How long does an automation project take?

A single automated report or import is typically 1 to 3 weeks. A set of connected automations across a department runs 4 to 10 weeks, depending mostly on how many systems are involved and whether they have usable APIs.

What happens to our existing macros?
